This is a full day tour, leading to the East coast of the island, stopping at JOZANI FOREST, one of the few forests conserved by the Zanzibar Government, here is the home of the famous red colobus monkeys, a rare spice of the monkeys to be seen in very few places of the world including Zanzibar.

DESCRIPTION

Join us for an exciting full day tour and visit the Jozani Forest your program will start in the morning as soon as you finish your breakfast at 8:00 am

Our driver will be ready to pick you up from your hotel to Chwaka bay ready to explore the forest. The Jozani Forest is the only National Park in Zanzibar located in the center of the Jozani-Chwaka Bay National Park, 38 km Southeast of Stone Town. The forest is a great place to encounter many indigenous varieties of flora and fauna, including the Zanzibari Red Colobus Monkey unique to Zanzibar, with less than 2000 remaining in the world. Other species that you might catch a glimpse of include Blue Sykes’ Monkeys, Bush Pigs, Aders Duiker Antelopes, Elephant Shrews, Chameleons, and numerous birds and butterflies.  

The best time to see the wildlife of Jozani is early in the morning and it is open daily from 07:30 am to 5:00 pm. Visitors are advised to keep three meters between themselves and any wildlife and asked not to visit the forest if suffering any cold or flu-like symptoms. The monkeys, though susceptible to human diseases, have practically no resistance to them.

A guide will walk you around the ancient hardwood forest, Enjoy walking around this beautiful nature park on an excellent nature trail for an hour or two with a well-trained and informative local guide.

You will also have a visit to the giant turtle sanctuary (OPTIONAL) and a boardwalk around the mangrove swamp breeding houses of variety of fish spices and the mangrove forest where medical tropical herbs can be seen in this place.

Later you will proceed to one of the sandy beaches in Jambiani East coast, famous for its fine soft sands and cool Indian Ocean breezes where you can relax, swim, snorkel, sunbath or cruise by a boat guided by an experienced local captain.   

  You’ll also gain an understanding of local life and culture in rural Zanzibar. You’ll get to meet an eclectic mix of people, each practicing different cultural traditions in Jambiani village.

This area is one of the main areas for seaweed farming in Zanzibar. You can always find local women at the beach during low tide, gathering seaweed. Today, there is also a soap factory that uses seaweed as its main ingredient. On this tour, you’ll visit a seaweed farm and learn about the harvest.

You’ll also learn about other aspects of rural life here, by visiting a female pottery and handicrafts group, as well as a local school. Among other things, you’ll learn the process of making rope from coconut fiber

You can also have your own lunch there at a local descent restaurant famous for its seafood menu or any other menu recommended.

Spend some leisure time after lunch until late afternoon when you decide to drive back to the hotel.
