Robinson Island

Robinson islandis a small inhabited island in Diani Beach

A marine escape just a short boat ride from the shores of Diani Beach, Kenyaoften referred to as the Robinson Sandbank, . It is a coveted local jewel renowned for its incredible clarity, vibrant coral reefs, and the purewhite sandbank that emerges from the Indian Ocean at low tide.

The experience of visiting Robinson Island typically begins with a lively transfer from your Diani hotel to the boat launch point, often near Baobab Beach. From here, you can board traditional glass-bottom boats for a thrilling voyage across the turquoise lagoon.

The most distinctive feature of the tour is the use of these glass-bottom vessels. Gliding over the shallow waters, the transparent floor acts as a natural"African Television," offering stunning, panoramic views of the underwater world. You’ll witness a thriving marine ecosystem, including the colourful tapestry of the coastal coral reefs, bright schools of tropical fish like angelfish and parrotfish, and intricate organisms such as starfish and sea urchins, all without getting wet.

The highlight of the journey is the arrival at the island itself—a gleaming stretch of powdery white sand that appears like a secluded oasis. Because the sandbank is highly susceptible to tidal movements, the timing of the excursion is crucial, often scheduled specifically to coincide with the lowest tide for optimal exploration. Visitors can disembark here to relax on the soft sand, swim in the calm, warm waters surrounding the bank, and take stunning photographs in a truly tranquil setting.

For the adventurous, this is the perfect opportunity to go snorkeling. Equipped with provided gear, you can plunge into the crystal-clear water to get up close and personal with the coral gardens. The short, 3 to 4-hour Robinson Island excursion offers an ideal blend of relaxation, marine adventure, and cultural connection, making it one of Diani Beach's most accessible and unforgettable coastal activities.
