Detailed Itinerary

You will be picked up at 7:00 AM from your accommodation in Diani. The journey to Shimba Hills National Reserve takes you through scenic landscapes, with your guide sharing cultural insights along the way. Arrival at the park gates is expected at approximately 8:00 AM, subject to traffic and park entry procedures.

After ticketing, the morning between 8:00 and 10:00 AM will be dedicated to a guided game drive through the reserve’s rainforest and grassland areas. This is a prime time to spot wildlife, including the rare sable antelope, elephants, giraffes, buffalo, smaller mammals, and a rich variety of birdlife.

Shortly after 10:00 AM, you will begin the hike to Sheldrick Falls. The trail is about 2.5 km each way (around 5 km round trip) and features steep sections with more than 300 stairs, requiring a reasonable level of physical fitness. At the falls, you can rest, take photographs, and, if you wish, cool off in the refreshing plunge pool.

By around 12:00 noon, those who choose to have lunch will continue to Shimba Green Lodge, located just outside the reserve. Here, a leisurely meal is available (At USD 20 per person, payable directly), with time to relax by the pool or simply enjoy the tranquil setting.

Following lunch, the return journey begins, with arrival back at your Diani accommodation expected by approximately 3:00 PM.

Park Entry & Game Drive – Expect to reach the Shimba Hills gate around 8:00 AM. After ticketing, a guided game drive offers the best chance to spot the rare sable antelope, elephants, and diverse birdlife.

Sheldrick Falls Hike – The trail is roughly 5 km round trip with steep sections and more than 300 stairs. A moderate level of fitness and energy is important. Good walking shoes, a hat, and drinking water are highly recommended.

Lunch Option – After the hike, travelers who opt for lunch will head to Shimba Green Lodge. Meals are available at approximately USD 20 per person, payable directly. The lodge offers a relaxing setting with pool access.

Return Time – The tour concludes in the early afternoon, with drop-off back in Diani expected around 3:00 PM, depending on traffic and road conditions.
