You will be picked from your Hotel or Airport at
6:30am in Nairobi and depart for Nakuru a destination with the most diverse
ecosystems in the whole country, with a brief stopover at the Great Rift Valley
viewpoint, we'll make our way into the heart of Kenya
Arrive at the Lake Nakuru National Park, renowned as a
bird sanctuary or the "Birds' Paradise". with over 400 bird species
at times. But
these birds are not the only ones to call this habitat home, we'll proceed for
a game drive through the park to spot several species, including the four of
the Big 5.
Between the lake and the cliffs in the west other
animals you may see are Rothschild giraffes, the endangered black rhino, and
large pythons inhabiting the dense woodland, and can often be seen crossing the
roads or dangling from trees which we will track on our drive to Makalia Fall,
a waterfall on the southern end of lake Nakuru national park, along which one
of the rivers that flow into the lake. It has a drop of about 10 m off a sheer
cliff and a large plunge pool. This is one of the places in the park where you
can step out of the vehicle. The falls give a delightful scene, just watching
the water from the cliff, coupled with bird sounds and the roar of the falls
provides a spectacular view and a serene environment.
Also covered in this tour is the Baboon Cliff a
popular viewpoint and a lunch spot, has a spectacular view of the lake, with
some fine aerial vistas down onto the flooded lake shore. Baboons, however, are a problem
and don't mind raiding vehicles, whether you're inside or not, for food scraps.
Will stop along the banks of the lake where you will
have an opportunity of seeing millions of migratory birds and get up close and
personal with the famous Nakuru greater and lesser flamingos: their
characteristic pink colour contrasts with the greens and blues reflected in the
waters of the lake giving the park its nick name " the pink lake" due
to the thousands of flamingos beautifying the calm wonderful lake.
later we'll head to a local restaurant and tuck in
their delicious lunch.
